Digital Scholarship Center

The Digital Scholarship Center (DSC) will be a collaborative, community-based space for library instruction on new digital techniques for analyzing a wide range of materials, from scientific datasets to medieval manuscripts. This new 7,733 sq. ft. center will be located in the lower level of the Edmon Low Library and will feature naming opportunities. The DSC includes these spaces:

• The interactive learning space can be reconfigured to accommodate a variety of seating and group arrangements.
• The collaborative space features worktables and dedicated high performance computers and provides an area for consultation with experts.
• The McCasland Foundation Maps & Spatial Data Area offers a large collection of sheet maps, aerial photographs, and atlases, along with consultation about mapping or other visualization techniques.
• The Library Underground Study Area provides a comfortable and spacious group study area.

The DSC will offer broad, digital tool-based instruction sessions that are open to the public as well as instruction sessions tied to certain approaches or digital tools for specific OSU class assignments. Examples include:

• Data visualization instruction to focus on how to translate written information into a visual context, such as a map or graph. This makes data easier to understand by being able to identify trends, patterns, and outliers in large data sets.
• Data and software workshops to focus on introductory skills needed for computing, data management, and analysis in all domains of research.
• Digital humanities workshops to teach students and faculty from humanities disciplines how to employ computers and digital technologies in their research, for example, the digital mapping of areas of historical or cultural significance or the digital annotation of ancient texts.
• Digital literacy and data literacy workshops to equip students to navigate increasingly complex information environments for classroom achievement and for success as lifelong learners.
• Research data services to help faculty and students plan for and manage projects that depend on well-organized and accessible data.
• Open access and open education workshops to teach scholars how to create and publish works that can be freely used throughout the world.
• Research impact services to support faculty and students in determining and showcasing the strength and influence of their scholarly work, using a variety of metrics. In sum, we help our researchers shape the story they want to tell the world about their work.
